da doce: Rangers prospect Ross McCrorie has ambitions to become one of Steven Gerrard’s go-to players next season, as reported by The Evening Times.
What’s he said?
McCrorie, who started his career at Ibrox as a centre-back, was used exclusively as a defensive midfielder last term and has become one of the brightest young talents at the club after some impressive performances in the Gers first-team.
His action was limited though and he was far from being one of the first names on the team-sheet, something that the 21-year-old wants to rectify next season, laying out his ambitions to The Evening Times.
Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…
As quoted by the paper, the Scotland U21 international said:
“Every season it is about developing as a player, getting better and reaching the best level that I can.
I feel this season is a big one for me, I want to be playing more or less every week. No player can play every game but I want to be one of the main players this season.
That is my goal and I would like to think I can do that. It is frustrating when you are in and out, I don’t want to be a bit-part player. I want to be a main player, playing week in week out and playing plenty of games. It is up to me to do make that happen.”
Can he reach that level?
Competition for midfield places in the Rangers team is fierce and if McCrorie does end up becoming a regular starter at the club he’ll have really earned it.
Steven Davis, Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield have been Steven Gerrard’s preferred options recently, with the homegrown academy talent not getting much action in the closing stages of the season even when there was nothing to play for.
He does have excellent ball winning skills and a presence in the middle of the park that hints at great potential, but he won’t fulfil that unless he improves enough to force his way into Gerrard’s plans.
His ambition should be exciting for supporters – fans always want their players to sound and act hungry – but his situation could benefit from a loan, even for an initial half season next term.
The player will have to produce something special that hasn’t been seen from him yet if he wishes to become one of Gerrard’s main men as quickly as next season.
