da dobrowin: According to reports in the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has urged the board to accelerate their transfer incomings after Kyle Walker completed his move to Manchester City on Friday.
What’s the word, then?
da lvbet: Well, the Daily Mail says that Pochettino wanted the transfer saga to come to an end before Tottenham’s tour to America and he got his wish on Friday.
Despite the fact that he is losing England’s first-choice right-back, the Argentine boss didn’t want the issue hanging over the club for their pre-season trip to the United States.
The Daily Mail says that the 45-year-old is keen to bring in FC Porto right-back Ricardo Pereira and Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley this summer.
The report adds that Pochettino wants to get their business done sooner rather than later, with the north London outfit often waiting until the latter stages of the window to bring players in, as they did when they bought Moussa Sissoko for £30m last summer.
Would Barkley and Pereira be good signings?
It seems likely that Spurs will buy a replacement for Walker after selling him, and reports in The Telegraph suggest that they could sign Pereira for around £20m.
The 23-year-old looks to have good potential following a successful two-season loan spell with Nice, and he is a versatile figure that can play anywhere on the right-hand side.
Meanwhile, Barkley has been brilliant at times for the Toffees but he hasn’t yet shown that he can perform well on a consistent basis, and it would be up to Pochettino to develop the 23-year-old if he did join Spurs.
Will Spurs get the deals done?
Well, considering Pereira would cost around £20m Spurs should just pay the money to get the deal done, especially after they have received an initial £45m fee for Walker.
A move for Barkley could be more difficult with Tottenham and Everton unlikely to instantly agree on a valuation for the attacking midfielder, with The Telegraph saying the Toffees valued him at £50m even though he has just one year left on his contract with the Merseyside outfit.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, Pochettino is right to urge the board to be assertive in the transfer market ahead of what is another big season for the club, and it will be interesting to see if they make progress on deals now Walker has completed his move to Manchester City.
