da doce: Tottenham Hotspur were among the list of Premier League title contenders prior to the start of the season.
da wazamba: However, just as we approach the hectic festive schedule, it seems that Mauricio Pochettino’s team are out of the running.
After a four-game winless run, the North London outfit have dropped 18 points behind leaders Manchester City, who remain unbeaten in the top flight.
As it stands, Spurs are sixth in the table, four points adrift of the top four after 15 games.
BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes that the club’s commitment to the Champions League is causing the team problems.
Pochettino’s men have been in scintillating form in Europe as they ended their group campaign unbeaten and managed to finish above reigning champions Real Madrid.
The difference in form has been noticeable whenever Tottenham resume their league action, and Shearer thinks that he knows the reason why.
In a blog for bookmaker Coral, the Newcastle United legend said:
“I said back at the start of the tournament that I thought Spurs would qualify and they’ve done brilliantly to top the group. However I do feel that their European performances are affecting their domestic form.
“I’ve watched their last few games and they’ve started slowly, conceded early goals and found it hard to claw it back. They are yet to find the balance between Champions League and Premier League form and a few of their players are finding it tough to get up for some of the league games.”
