da dobrowin: Rangers had a bid rejected for Kyle Lafferty last week, but Steven Gerrard can transform the Gers’ season by hijacking West Brom’s move for Dwight Gayle.
What’s the story?
da imperador bet: According to Sky Sports, the swap deal that would have sent Newcastle’s Gayle to West Brom has stalled.
Newcastle are in talks to sign Salomon Rondon from the Baggies, and Gayle was expected to depart in the other direction as the Englishman does not want to sit on the bench on Tyneside.
The deal has reportedly stalled after the two clubs failed to agree on the terms though, with rumours circulating that Gayle’s stay at West Brom would be a one-year loan with an option to buy.
Gerrard and Rangers are of course on the hunt for a striker of their own, hoping to find some top class competition for Alfredo Morelos before the season begins.
If Gayle is truly available on a loan deal, then the lure of getting consistent playing time under a Premier League legend could certainly get his attention, especially if the Gers get through to the Europa League group stages.

Finally a 20-goal striker?
A swoop for Laffery would give Gerrard a range of options up front, with the former fan favourite adding a dose of strength and power to Morelos’ speed and agility. The Gers already have Umar Sadiq though, who looks like he has the traits to be quite the target man himself, so Lafferty is really not needed.
Gayle has the potential to match Celtic’s Moussa Dembele, as the pacey Englishman has scored 29 times in 67 league appearances for the Magpies, with 23 of those coming in their season in the Championship.
The 28 year-old is extremely hard working, make fantastic darting runs in behind, has excellent pace, and most of all he never hesitates in front of goal. He only scored six Premier League goals last season, but he was playing in a team devoid of any real pace or creativity.
Gerrard has already made plenty of impressive additions to his squad, but a swoop for Lafferty would be a step in the wrong direction. Gayle would bring bags of speed, clinical finishing and a great work ethic to Ibrox. In fact, he could just be the Gers’ best goalscorer since Kris Boyd.
So, Rangers fans, should you make a loan swoop for Gayle? Could Gerrard pull it off? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
