da betobet: Axel Tuanzebe has started to show his best form for Aston Villa in recent weeks, but it will be extremely difficult for the club to keep the Manchester United defender on a long-term basis as he continues to develop.
What’s the word, then?
Tuanzebe initially joined Villa on loan in January, but only made five appearances for the Championship club before returning to United, with injury cutting his spell at Villa Park short.
The defender returned to the Championship side during the summer, however, and has made 15 appearances in all competitions this term.
Arguably Tuanzebe’s finest performance in a Villa shirt came against Bolton Wanderers on Friday night, with the 20-year-old showing his class.
There is no question that Villa will be keen to keep hold of the defender – and potentially sign him on a permanent deal – but it is going to be very difficult for that to occur as he continues to grow as a footballer.
Tuanzebe is a Premier League defender in waiting, and United really should hand the England Under-21 international the chance to impress next season.
Is Tuanzebe good enough for the Premier League?
When considering United’s defensive problems this season, it is a surprise that Tuanzebe is not at the club.
That said, United boss Jose Mourinho clearly felt that he would be able to bring a new central defender to the club before the transfer window closed.
The likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have the experience, but both Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have struggled this season, while Marcos Rojo is out of favour as he attempts to return from injury.
Even Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay have been pressed into action at centre-back this season, and it is difficult to imagine that there will not be a spot for Tuanzebe when considering his potential.
The Englishman does already have eight United appearances to his name, and will be looking for a full season of Championship football before returning to Old Trafford.
Villa would absolutely love to keep the 6ft 1in ace, but it seems an impossible task.
