da betsul: When West Ham United were moved from Upton Park to London Stadium, fans were told it would help the team reach “the next level”.
After all, in order to justify the decision to move away from their spiritual home, there had to be some sort of benefit on the pitch, so the theory went.
It is safe to say that the transition has been far from smooth and progressive, with the protests against Burnley in 2018 acting as the biggest indicator of how furious fans feel about how the club has developed.

Since the move, there have been some signs that an effort is being made to move the club forward.
Most notably, Manuel Pellegrini was signed to a £10m per year contract, while Felipe Anderson and Sebastien Haller were both purchased in deals that surpassed the £35m mark.
However, look back at Saturday’s 3-2 loss against Tottenham Hotspur – that looked like it would be a humiliation at one stage – and it has to be questioned if much has changed at all.
Pellegrini looked like a helpless man hanging onto his job by the thinnest of threads.
Anderson was hauled off at half time after making no shots or key passes.
Haller represented a player stripped of confidence just months after joining.

To add a further taint on what was supposed to be a story of success, the Hammers haven’t won a single game in their last eight, have got to a point where goalkeeper errors are becoming the norm, and sit just one place and three points above the relegation zone.
That doesn’t exactly scream progress or reaching the next level, and a potential managerial swoop is another damning indication of their stagnation.
If anything summed up how little the club have progressed since taking a gamble on London Stadium, it’s the fact both Football Insider and ExWHUemployee believe David Moyes is a contender to replace Pellegrini.
There are various things that annoy West Ham fans about London Stadium: for some, it is that popcorn is sold in the concourse, others hate the fact that they are further away from the pitch than they used to be.
However, the biggest factor surely has to be that after leaving a place that was so sacred to so many, there has been little-to-no progress, meaning it can, and will, be argued that the decision has been absolutely pointless.
The West Ham board took a massive risk when they decided to leave Upton Park and it is looking as though it has backfired.
